  • EVA anticipates record-high bonuses amid aviation recovery

    EVA Airways Corporation plans to reward its employees with generous year-end bonuses, averaging six months’ salary, due to the anticipated recovery of the global aviation industry in 2023. This unprecedented bonus is subject to the company’s annual earnings, with additional compensation expected to be distributed in mid-2024. The airline will also adjust salaries for ground and flight crews, with ground crew and cabin crew salaries increasing by approximately NT$5,000 and pilots’ salaries by NT$11,000 to NT$20,000, depending on rank. However, these bonuses and salary adjustments are contingent on individual overall performance. Other companies under EVA’s jurisdiction, such as Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp., Evergreen Airline Services Corporation, Evergreen Sky Catering Corporation, and Evergreen Air Cargo Services Corp., will also participate in the reward scheme.

  • NTNU announces record 56-day winter break for students

    National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) students are set to enjoy an unprecedented winter break lasting 56 days, from December 25 to February 18, the longest in the institution’s history. This extended vacation period aligns with the academic schedules of several countries, allowing international students to return home for Christmas. Other universities, such as National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech), also begin their winter breaks on December 25. NTU’s break will last until February 6, while Taiwan Tech has added 10 extra days, ending on February 16. During this winter break, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation is offering discounted tickets to university students, with discounts of 50%, 75%, and 88% available from January 4 to January 10. Additionally, there are 28 train services providing tickets at 50% off. The upcoming 2024 presidential election in Taiwan, taking place on January 13, is also on students’ minds, as it coincides with their winter break, potentially facilitating greater voter participation among the youth demographic.

  • Coldplay breaks attendance record with 85K fans in Kaohsiung

    Coldplay’s concert in Kaohsiung attracted a record-breaking attendance of nearly 85,000 people, surpassing the previous record set by BLACKPINK in March 2023. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai announced the unprecedented high of 84,858 individuals in the stadium’s vicinity. After the concert, transportation authorities reduced the Metro frequency to three minutes to disperse the large crowd, taking a total of 82 minutes to completely clear the stadium. The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government reported that around 30,000 concertgoers took the city’s metro to the venue, out of a total daily transportation volume of approximately 266,000. The bureau encouraged the use of public transportation due to traffic control near the concert venue.
